Whenever i cut a tile it ends up having a very rough and jagged edge.

Rectified tile is fired tile ceramic or porcelain tile that has been mechanically cut or ground down to an exact size.
Additionally the edges are usually precisely cut at a square.
If your tile is small 1 inch is enough.
As an alternative use a grinder with a diamond tile cutter wheel to cut the tile.
If you are new to using these tools practice on some spare tiles before beginning your project.
